USAT carefully selected 10 Regional Championship races (one in each region) who have met specific USAT guidelines ranging from sanctioning, safety and quality of the event to promotion, community and athlete support of the event.  The purpose of the Regional Championship events is to showcase a selection of the best USAT Sanctioned events and to give each race the opportunity to exhibit its individual characteristics on a National stage.

The 2008 Regional Championship races (intermediate distance triathlon only) will qualify the top 33 percent or top five finishers (whichever is greater) in each age group for the 2008 Age Group National Championship.  If a Regional Championship race falls after the 2008 Age Group National Championship, it will be a qualifier for 2009 Nationals.- 2009 qualifying is top 10 in each age group.

Special qualifying races will serve as an additional way for athletes to qualify for 2008 Age Group Nationals.  Each age group will qualify the top 33% (or top 5, whichever is greater) for the 2008 Age Group Nationals in Portland , OR .  (Event date TBD)
